Best Settings

Depending on the speed of your computer, I suggest using the VISIBILITY pull down menu to set visibility to about 60 meters. The tour is intended to be viewed in first person, so we recommend using the VIEW pulldown menu to select FIRST PERSON.

How do I start the tour?

The easiest way to start the bot is to left click the sign with your mouse. The TourBot will detect the click and start the tour. You will see instructions in your message window.

How do I stop or pause the tour

There are 2 ways to pause a tour. The first method is to left click your mouse pointer on the pause button. The second method is to whisper the command "pausetour" (no spaces). The pause feature is primarily used to allow time for slow modems to load scenery into the cache files.

There are 3 ways to stop a tour. The first method is to left click your mouse pointer on the stop button. The second method is to whisper the command "stoptour" (no spaces). The third method is to exit the world. After you stop the tour, the tourbot will print the last route step number. You can save this number to resume your tour at a later time using the command resumetour . Also, the tour will automatically stop at the end of the route.

Use of text commands

TourBot will listen to text commands sent as whisper messages. The diagram below will show the location of the whisper text input area. If the whisper edit box is not visibile, then press the F8 key to toggle the whisper edit box on/off.

Using the pulldown pick list at the left of the whisper, select "TourBot" as the recipent.

In the whisper edit box, enter the command as shown below. (no spaces between words)

begintourStart the tour.
pausetourPause or un-pause the tour.
stoptourStop the tour.
resumetour Resume previous tour at specified stip.

How to resume a previous tour

When you stop a tour, using the 'stoptour' command will cause the bot to specify the last step number of the tour. To resume the tour, use the command 'resumetour '. For example you could whisper: resumetour 500. Approximate step number are shown on the tourbot map.

Troubleshooting

1-Tour getting stuck.

The tour may be paused. Look at the text window and see if you have any pause messages from the bot. Try to un-pause the tour as described above.

Another common cause is that the AW browser has lost the focus of the windows desktop. You will need to click in the picture window of the AW browser. I suggest clicking the sky to avoid causing a PAUSE mouse click. Instant messengers, such as AIM and ICQ can shift the focus of the windows desktop away from the AW browser when they pop open.

2-World seems empty

This usually caused by slow internet connections. You are walking faster than the scenery can load on your computer. Occasionally pause the tour as described above to allow an empty area to load it's objects.

3-walking through objects

This is usually caused by lag. One or more position instruction were probably lost causing you to take an unplanned shortcut through solid objects. Also, the world may have been edited since the tour was made. Try pausing the tour occasionally to allow the scenery to load. Perhaps, try another time when the internet is less busy. The tour should run successfully with a standard telephone modem, but AWS is much better if you upgrade to broadband!
